YOUTH MATTERS
At its inaugural meeting in the Public Hall (21/11/07) an organising group, satisfyingly youthful in composition, with a leavening of older activists, has agreed to set up a youth activity centre with adequate funding for some pretty ambitious plans.
80 people attended to hear youngsters explain why they needed facilities in which to meet and, memorably, to 'chill out' whatever this may mean. The group of mainly young people have no doubt about what it means, however, and have prodcued very ambitious plans to bring it about.
They propose to raise the sum of £200,000 to purchase all or part of the existing Venture Hall, now used by the Scouts and Guides for two nights per week sessions for a wide range of activites.
But why, oh why does it need £200,000 to start a youth club? Why can't suitable facilities be found for a rental so we can get started immediately?
